Privacy & Terms of Use

MyGolfIndex.com ("MyGolfIndex", "we", "us") is a free golf handicap tracking service. For any privacy question or request, contact us at [email protected].

We collect only what's needed to run the service:

• Account information: email address, username, and password (stored as a salted hash, never in plain text). If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google instead of a password.
• Golf data: the scores, courses, and tee boxes you enter, and the handicap index we calculate from them.
• Technical data: your IP address and browser information, collected automatically by Google Analytics (see Cookies & Third-Party Services below).

We do not sell your data to third parties.

• Contract: your account and score data are processed because they're the service itself — we can't track your handicap without them.
• Legitimate interest: we use aggregated, non-identifying analytics to understand how the site is used and to keep it running reliably.
• Consent: signing in with Google is optional and only happens if you choose it.

Cookies strictly required to run the site:

• Login session — keeps you signed in (expires after 14 days of inactivity).
• CSRF protection — a security token that prevents forged form submissions.
• Google sign-in handshake — a short-lived cookie used only while completing "Sign in with Google" (expires in minutes).

Third-party services that may set their own cookies or receive your IP address:

• Google Analytics — anonymized usage statistics (pages visited, general location, device type).
• Google AdSense — may show ads on the site; Google may use cookies to personalize them.
• Google Sign-In — used only if you choose to log in with Google.
• Google Fonts & Google Maps — used to display page text and course locations; loading them contacts Google's servers.

Each of these is operated by Google LLC under its own privacy policy. We don't currently offer a cookie-preferences banner; if you're in the EU/UK and want to browse without analytics or ad cookies, use a browser privacy setting or extension to block third-party cookies from mygolfindex.com.

Wherever you're located, you can:

• Access or correct your data any time from your Profile page.
• Delete your account and all your data — instantly and permanently — from the "Delete My Account" section of your Profile page. This is a real, irreversible deletion, not a deactivation.
• Request an export of your data by emailing [email protected].

If you're in the EU/UK, you additionally have the right to restrict or object to processing and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We rely on Google's standard contractual clauses for the international transfer of data processed by Google Analytics, AdSense, Sign-In, Fonts, and Maps.

MyGolfIndex is well below the size thresholds that make the California Consumer Privacy Act legally binding on a business (broadly: $25M+ in annual revenue, or personal data from 100,000+ California residents bought, sold, or shared per year). We're honoring the core rights anyway:

• Right to know what we've collected about you — see "What We Collect" above, or email us for specifics.
• Right to delete — the same "Delete My Account" feature described under Your Rights.
• Right to opt out of sale/sharing — we don't sell personal information, and we don't currently use it for cross-context behavioral advertising. If that changes as the site grows, we'll add a "Do Not Sell or Share My Info" control here.
• Right to non-discrimination — exercising any of these rights never affects your access to the service.

We keep your account and golf data for as long as your account exists. Deleting your account removes it immediately. Server error logs that may incidentally contain technical data (like IP addresses) are periodically purged, typically after 30 days.

By using MyGolfIndex you agree that handicap indexes displayed are calculated using WHS methodology but are not certified USGA handicaps. Use of this site is at your own discretion.

If we make a material change to how we handle your data, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
